... that today is Copycat Day? In 1938, Chester Carlson,
inventor of xerography, made the first photocopy at his
laboratory in Astoria, New York. The message copied? Simple:
"Astoria, 10-22-38." Carlson received world acclaim and became
extremely wealthy as his invention created a billion-dollar
industry. It is estimated that Carlson gave away almost $100
million to charity and foundations before his death in 1968.
